The University of Louisiana takes seriously the safety and security of our campus and students. Here is what every parent should know about campus safety.

Police Department
The primary purpose of the UL Lafayette Police Department is to protect life and property of the university student body, faculty and staff. The following are services provided by the UL Lafayette Police for the university community:
- The taking of all reports of crimes committed on the campus and subsequent investigations of those crimes
- On campus emergency service
- Routine Police Patrol – vehicles, foot and bicycle patrols
- Accident reports. All accidents occurring on campus must be reported to the UL Lafayette Police Department
- Educating the campus community in crime risk awareness and reduction through presentations, printed crime prevention materials, victims’ assistance and referral services and self defense classes.
- Recovered Property Division
- Weekly crime log published on the department’s web page, along with annual crime statistics
The UL Lafayette Police Department operates on a 24 hour/7 day a week basis. It also serves as the central information center for the university during after hours and on weekends. In addition, during campus-wide emergencies, the department serves as operational headquarters for the university administration.
