University of Colorado at Boulder Parent Guide
CU Parent Program
CU-Boulder parents have many opportunities to get involved, stay connected and make a difference at CU. The mission of the CU Parent Program is to partner with parents to support and enhance the educational experience of CU students.
The University of Colorado Parent Program is comprised of three parts: the Office of Parent Relations; the CU Parents Association (CUPA), and the CU Parent Fund. We connect with parents by hosting a number of events throughout the year and by sponsoring a variety of communications efforts. Through these outreach programs we inform parents of the many ways they can volunteer and support the university and their students.
The Office of Parent Relations and the CU Parents Association are a CU parent’s link to information on policies, programs and news of specific interest to them. Throughout the year, OPR/CUPA organizes a variety of activities and programs that give parents the opportunity to interact with and support students and the university, including summer send offs, Family Weekend (September 28-30, 2012), orientation dinners, continuing student scholarships, grants, parent newsletters, and more. For more info visit our web site.
Parents can also get involved through the CU Parent Fund. Each year, this fund enables the Division of Student Affairs to support critical programs and initiatives that directly assist students. This year’s goal is $2,000,000 to support four major areas of Student Affairs programming: campus safety, student development, experiential learning, and parent programs. Many of these programs are not supported by tuition or state funding, therefore, private support, such as gifts to the Parent Fund, are the only way to ensure that these programs exist.
CU-Boulder continues to attract highly qualified and talented students. The Parent Fund partners with the University to promote new initiatives to better serve these students. For example, last year The Parent Fund teamed-up with Counseling and Psychological Services to add an after hour urgent care line and additional counseling staff. Each year, with Parent Fund support, CUPA contributes to student success by awarding more than $100,000 in grants and scholarships.
Much of the grant money is used to fund projects that help build community, promote diversity and improve student safety. Parents can help support important programs and initiatives like these by making a gift to the Parent Fund. All gifts, no matter the size, enrich life at CU-Boulder.
