Now that Orientation is Over…
Thank you for attending the Parent Orientation Program at Florida International University! The following are recommended checklists for you and your student to consider in the upcoming days before classes begin.
Parent/Family Member Checklist:
- Discuss with your student what your expectations are for her or his college experience, and what this means for your relationship over the next few years. Consider the following topics: academics, transportation, finances, communication, and family responsibilities.
- Chat with your student about the differences between high school and college.
- Encourage your student to familiarize her/himself with the various resources on campus.
- Encourage your student to register for Panther Camp.
- Join the Panther Parents Association.
- Sign up to receive monthly email updates through the FIU Parent Email Listserv.
- Familiarize yourself with the Academic Calendar.

Student Checklist:
- Register to attend Panther Camp through the Office of Orientation and Commuter Student Services.
- 24 hours after your student has registered for classes, they can register online for the student parking pass
- 24 hours after your student has registered for classes, they can obtain email access information
- Pay all tuition and fees by the deadline found on the Academic Calendar
- Purchase textbooks for the semester.
- Familiarize her/himself with the Academic Calendar
- Familiarize him/herself with the campus and with classroom locations before classes begin.
- Get Excited!
