I would like to personally welcome ERAU students!  You’ve chosen a great institution which just happens to be in a fantastic place.

Prescott is home to some of the most amazing natural beauty to be found in the Sourthwest and is a hub of Arizona history, tradition, art and culture.

Surrounded by breathtaking landscape and one of the nation’s largest ponderosa pine forests, Prescott is perfect for those who enjoy the outdoors.  Six crystal clear area lakes provide loads of kayaking, canoeing and fishing opportunities. There are over 450 miles of recreational trails laced throughout Prescott National Forest. Visitors will find trails for hiking, biking, horseback riding and off-road adventures that wind through the magnificent moonscape-like vistas of the Granite Dells, to the top of majestic Granite Mountain and across the pine draped Bradshaw Mountains.

For the golf enthusiast, Prescott and the surrounding area offer 90 holes of public golf that will challenge players against a backdrop of stunning scenery.  Not only are area courses well designed and exciting to play, they’re affordable!

Prescott’s motto is “History Lives On” and indeed it does.  With nearly 800 buildings on the National Register of Historic Buildings, Prescott is Arizona’s best-preserved town.  The Sharlot Hall, Phippen and Smoki museums trace the history of the area from the perspectives of the settlers, Native Americans and, of course, through the art of the West.

Prescott’s Courthouse Plaza is the pivot around which the town was designed and built.  Today quaint boutiques, fantastic restaurants and an eclectic array of galleries featuring local, regional and national artists surround this famous landmark.

The historic haunts (some rumored to be haunted) of the famous, not-so famous and the infamous line Whiskey Row on the west side of Courthouse Square.  The Palace Saloon, also on the National Register of Historic Places, serves libations on the same bar that served Doc Holiday and Wyatt Earp.
Performing and visual arts play a large part in the fiber of this high desert community.

In addition to the many area galleries, the Prescott Fine Arts Association, the Yavapai College Performance Hall, the Blue Rose Theatre and several other like-minded organizations provide artistic sustenance to this entertainment savvy locale.

Events and Festivals

Throughout the year the Prescott area is host to a plethora of events that celebrate the history, culture and art of the West.  In the spring the Whiskey Row Marathon, Phippen Museum Western Art Show and Sale and the Territorial Days Arts & Crafts Show take center stage.  The summer season heats up with Prescott Frontier Days and World’s Oldest Rodeo, Tsunami on the Square, Prescott Indian Art Market and the Arizona Cowboy Poets Gathering.

The soft autumn days are perfect to enjoy the Yavapai County Fair, Arizona Shakespeare Festival and Folk Music Festival.  Prescott is Arizona’s Christmas City and lives up to its name with the Christmas Parade and Courthouse Lighting, Gingerbread Village, Frontier Christmas Open House.  The Valley of Lights in neighboring Prescott Valley has become a holiday favorite attracting visitors from all over Arizona. The Prescott area positively lights up and opens its doors for all to enjoy the sights and sounds of the holiday season.

The combination of Prescott’s history and cultural heritage along with new, area developments create a fascinating destination. For more information visit the Prescott area web site or call the Prescott Chamber of Commerce.
