The Bog

In February 2006, a group of IIT students decided to create a campaign to bring back the campus pub, sports bar, restaurant, and bowling alley; known fondly as The Bog.  A year later, The Bog reopened its historic doors after having been closed for nearly four years.
 
Appropriately, this major student hub which was re-founded by students, is now also run by students and a student staff with a Bog advisory group.  The Student Government Association teamed up with Union Board (UB) and Finance Board to create a way to guarantee funding for events in The Bog.  IIT's Campus and Conference Centers (CCC) has a staff of eight students who run bowling, karaoke, and a myriad of other programming scheduled weekly.  These students are led by a professional staff member from the CCC.  
 
In the fall of 2009, the CCC brought in a new Student Events and Bog Coordinator, Chris Dayss.  He has a Master's Degree in Student Affairs Administration, as well as over five years of operations experience working for Corner Bakery Cafe and Food for Thought Catering.  His unique blend of experience in student affairs and event planning and operations has certainly proved to be an asset!  Students really enjoy working with him to make their events successful.
 
There are many ways to get involved in the Bog.  Aside from participating in events such as karaoke or St. Baldrick's (held every year in March where students shave their heads to raise money to help children with cancer), your son or daughter can join UB in order to help produce these events.  Additionally, if your student is in any other student groups on campus, chances are they have had or are planning to have an event take place in the Bog!
 
The Bog has become a great success over the past three years.  In order to celebrate this, the Bog 3rd Anniversary Party is this February.
