Welcome to the Colorado College community! As the parent of an incoming student, you have many exciting days ahead, watching your son or daughter embark on his or her individual intellectual journey. Sending a child away to college is never an easy experience, but I am thrilled that you have entrusted Colorado College with this important part of your son's or daughter's life.
Colorado College offers an exceptional learning environment in which students gain the knowledge and skills they need to be leaders and thinkers in today's world. The core of our academic community is our strong faculty who are dedicated to students. Like scholars at other top institutions, Colorado College professors are actively advancing knowledge in their respective disciplines. However, our professors are distinct in their commitment to teaching. This dedication to undergraduate education allows students to experience rich and thought-provoking classroom discussion as well as meaningful interaction with faculty outside of class. The Block Plan schedule is particularly conducive to this form of learning, allowing students and faculty to fully engage in one another's success and education. Students who graduate from this environment are well equipped to interact with individuals from all backgrounds and cultures, to think creatively about solving complex problems, and to understand our rapidly changing global society.
The passion of our faculty is perhaps only rivaled by the intellectual curiosity of our students. Colorado College is home to a diverse and engaged student population. Not only will your child study new and interesting topics, but he or she will also live and socialize with peers from around the world. This year's incoming class is comprised of students from 18 foreign countries (7 percent of incoming class) and 45 different states. More than 27 percent are students of color, and this class's academic credentials are among the most impressive in our history.
In many ways, Colorado College resembles the stunning physical environment that surrounds our campus. Like the Rocky Mountains, our academic community is a bold and adventurous place that challenges students while also providing them with a plethora of experiences for personal growth and enrichment. I believe that your student will thrive in this environment.
As members of the Colorado College community, please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns. In the meantime, I look forward to meeting you and your student!
With warm regards,
Jill Tiefenthaler
