Great Ways to Experience Fort Collins for Free

Gallery Walk

On the first Friday of every month, the visual arts come out at night. All the galleries (which is currently close to 20) in Historic Old Town stay open later, from 6:00-9:00pm. Free refreshments like wine, cheese, cookies, crackers and soda are offered at each gallery. This is a great event that draws people in from all over the state.

Learn about the importance of ghost signs and the history of downtown Ft. Collins. The walk highlights many old hotels and landmarks around this historic downtown.

Museums

Between the Fort Collins Museum, the Museum of Contemporary Art, and the Center for Fine Art Photography, there is something for everyone in Fort Collins!

Fort Collins Museum:

Fort Collins Museum
Focused on local history, the Fort Collins Museum is housed in the 1904 Carnegie Library building, and contains more than 35,000 objects related to the history of the city.

Museum of Art:

MOA
The Fort Collins Museum of Art, also housed in a historic 1911 building, contains two galleries with rotating exhibits in all media.  Additionally, the MOA host the Studio Tour every fall (see #4).  Located on the top floor of the MOA, the Center for Fine Art Photography provides ongoing exhibitions and juried shows of the finest photography from around the world. It is the largest gallery exhibiting exclusively international fine art photography in the state of Colorado.

Music

Free outdoor concerts in the summer are a local favorite in Fort Collins.  Enjoy the weather and the tunes.  Check Downtown Fort Collins for the schedule.

Festivals

June is a huge month of festivals in the area with the: Wine Fest, Poudre River Fest, Taste of Fort Collins, Colorado Bug Classic, Colorado Brewers Festival. The end of summer vacation is celebrated with the NewWestFest. Look for each festival individually or check out Visit Ft. Collins for updates.

Looking for crafts, gifts, or simply some fresh organic vegetables to encourage your student with? Larimer County Farmers’ Market is an event to check out. Fort Collins hosts this farmers market twice a week starting in May and going until October. Set hours are July 7-October 13, Saturday at 8am.
