University of West Florida Family Guide
Welcome to the Spring Semester
With the Spring semester firmly underway, I would like to take a moment to welcome the families of our newest Argonauts, those students who have enrolled for the first time this semester. There are many exciting events planned for the Spring. Student leadership opportunities are available in Student Government, Student Organizations, Student Transition Programs (Argo Camp), and Housing & Residence Life to name a few. In Athletics, Men's & Women's Basketball are in full swing, our 2011 NCAA Division II National Championship Baseball team will be taking the field soon with the Softball team playing on the adjacent field, and our Cross Country and Golf teams will be competing in tournaments throughout the semester. On the academic side of the house, Academic Visioning is underway mapping a strategic plan for the future of Academic Affairs. The Campus Master Plan is being updated and new construction is occurring across campus. A new campus computer portal, MyUWF, has been successfully launched which provides electronic services and resources to current students, faculty, staff, and prospective students and community members. And, finally, the Spring holds our annual Honors Convocation, Festival on the Green, and Student Leadership Banquet. There's plenty to do and be proud of as an Argonaut!
If your son/daughter hasn't already done so, now is the time to complete financial aid paperwork for the 2012-13 academic year. It's also a good time to start talking to your son/daughter about living arrangements for next year - especially if the plan is to live on campus. For those students who are currently living on campus, Housing sign-up for next year will occur in mid-March and the Returning Resident Housing Contract is currently available on the Housing website. If your son/daughter currently lives off campus, but plans to live on campus next year, the Housing Contract is available on line and should be completed as soon as possible.
One final note, mark your calendars now for our 3rd Annual Family Weekend. The dates have been set for September 21-23, 2012. Registration will be available online early in the Summer. We hope to see you there!
