Commuter Plans Save More Than Thought.

If students are living off campus, their budget has to cover all sorts of living expenses. Unfortunately, full, balanced meals are sometimes left out of the planning. Commuters often underestimate the time and hassle it often takes to go home to prepare something even as simple as a sandwich in the middle of a heavy class day. Meal Plans can help take some of the pressure off and save money versus eating off campus or buying meals in the Dining Halls one at a time.

The new Commuter rates for the 2010-11 academic year are posted, pending University Board of Trustees approval:

  Per Semester   Per Year
FLEX $ PRICE FLEX $ PRICE
10 - Meal Plan 115 $1327.00 230 $2654.00
  PER BLOCK
  FLEX $ PRICE
Commuter I 40 $577.00
Commuter II 55 $232.00

Every plan has two components: MEALS and FLEX$. Plan information is loaded on a student ID. Chartwells cashiers simply swipe an ID to charge for meals or Flex$. Commuter I and II are Block Plans and can be re-purchased within a semester if all meals are used up. The 10-Meal Plan is priced and sold per semester.

Meals
This component is used in any of the three Dining Halls. Located at the NW Quad, Brough Commons and Pomfret, the Halls are not anything like a college dining experience from decades past. These are all-you-care-to-eat spots offering everything from custom pasta bowls, fresh veggies, entrees, and ethnic dishes to salads, pizzas, burgers and more. Menus are unique to each hall so, students are encouraged to mix-it up and eat in all of the dining halls.

Flex $
Spend these in any Chartwells retail location to buy food and drinks. Flex$ can also be used to buy a guest meal in any Hall. They are re-loadable in two increments of $50 or a total of $100 per semester.

Meal Trades & Late Night
During evening hours as posted at the Union Food Court and The Hill Grill, meal plan holders may use a meal to purchase food. See times and guidelines for trades in each of these two locations.
