Babson College Parent Guide

Welcome to Babson

dean hanno and students

Dear Babson Parents and Families,

I know that the beginning of college is a time that can create some anxiety and stress for both you and your child. As a parent of two college students, I understand what it means to experience this transition. Your child has entered a world where he or she will now be treated as a young adult.

This is a time of great opportunity and excitement. In addition to pursuing academic interests and professional aspirations, your child will engage in life on campus and in the community. He or she will be choosing a network of friends, learning how to think independently, and gaining understanding of how to resolve personal problems. During these four years, your child will be able to experience a variety of leadership roles; whether social, cultural, intellectual, or spiritual. The opportunities are endless.

So where does Babson’s staff and faculty fit in? We do not assume the role of parents—that role stays with you. Instead, we are here to provide your child with access to a unique college experience that will further his or her development into a responsible, healthy adult and global citizen.

As your child is beginning the Babson experience, we hope this guide will help you support his or her transition, and perhaps assist with your own. We also trust that this guide will provide a useful framework for understanding the relationship your child will have with Babson, and what you can expect during this transition.

Sincerely,

Dennis Hanno
Dean, Undergraduate School
