Student Life at CU
What does the CU-Boulder campus offer with respect to the arts and culture?
The CU-Boulder campus offers a wide variety of museums, exhibits, and galleries. It also boasts an impressive array of performing arts events, seminars, and lectures that are open to the public. Take the time to investigate the arts and culture at CU.
What happens if my student is charged with violating the Student
Conduct Code? Is there anything I can do to help my student during the university’s judicial process?
The student will be asked to set a meeting with a Judicial Affairs staff member to go over the process. Then the student makes a request to have the case heard, choosing from among three options: Administrative Option Involving Acceptance of Responsibility, Administrative Option Involving Denial of Responsibility, or the Judicial Affairs Hearing Board Hearing. As these options are preferences, the university reserves the right to choose an option if the situation warrants such a choice by the university. For more detailed information, please see the Student Conduct Code.
You can help guide your student through the judicial affairs process and be supportive while still holding the student accountable. You can also help identify and provide necessary interventions, such as alcohol or drug evaluations, anger management, and others, so that your student can be successful at CU. Allow and expect the student to set appointments, attend meetings, and fulfill sanctions. It is usually not helpful to the educational development of the student, or resolution of the matter, for you to take over the process for your student. During disciplinary meetings or conferences the student may have an advisor present and the advisor may be a parent. The role of the advisor is to support and advise the student but not to speak for or represent the student.
I would like to mail something to my student in the residence halls, how do I address it?
Here is the format for mailing letters/packages to your student in the residence halls:
(Student’s Name)
(Box Number) (Hall Name)
Boulder, CO 80310 – (+ four digit extension)
If your student lives in Williams Village please include Williams Village before the residence hall. For example:
John Smith
Box 735, Williams Village, Darley North
Boulder, CO 80310-0011
Regular mail and standard packages are delivered to mailrooms centrally located in each hall or commons. All overnight express packages, flowers, cakes, etc. are delivered to the hall office and are signed for by staff. Students are notified by e-mail for package pick-up. Do not put “University of Colorado” in the address as it will slow down the USPS delivery.
My student is having a hard time connecting with other students on campus, any suggestions?
One of the best things about attending CU is the variety of people you meet. There are a several ways for students to become involved and meet new people. CU’s Division of Student Affairs plans several activities, events, and programs that encourage students to be active in the university community; the recreation center organizes intramural sports for students to participate in; and student government allows students to hold leadership positions. Ralphie’s Guide to Student Life also provides useful information on how to become involved at CU.
