What does Residential Life provide in my room?
An “extra long” single bed, 36” x 80” mattress and mattress protector, a chest of drawers, a desk and chair, draperies or blinds mirror. Some rooms will include a wastebasket, wall or ceiling light, telephone jack and computer hook-up. Beginning with the 2008-2009 academic year, most student dorm rooms will be equipped with a Microfridge and personal safe.
Are there things not provided, that I may want to bring?
A reading lamp, bedspread, sheets, blankets, and pillow for “extra long” bed, towels and wash cloths, phone, fans, U.L. approved extension cord and surge protector, basic cleaning supplies
Are there items that I MAY NOT bring to the residence hall?
- No animals other than fish or crustaceans that live under water.
- Electrical appliances: halogen lamps, electric blankets, space heaters, heat lamps
- Flammable items: incense, candles, gasoline, propane, sterno, hookahs
- Kitchen equipment of any kind: hot plates, broilers, large refrigerator, toasters, hot pots, griddles, crock pots, toaster ovens, heating coils, electric frying pans, microwave ovens, etc.
- Waterbeds and furniture lofts
- Weapons: guns, ammunition, pellet guns, air guns, smoke devices, bow and arrow, large knives, fireworks and firecrackers.
When can I ship my luggage or boxes to the College?
Your boxes and luggage may be sent to arrive on or after August 22.
Do I get to meet my roommate before I arrive in the fall?
When you receive your room placement, you may also receive the name and of your future roommate. Their email address will be provided as long as they haven’t asked that their information be withheld.
How will I get my keys?
Room keys will be issued on opening day. You will go to your residence hall to check in with the hall staff. At that time you will also receive an orientation packet, which will provide the information you need to maneuver your way through New Student Orientation.
