What are CC Grads doing 5 years after Graduating?

Class of 2004 Five-Year Survey Report Highlights

236 alumni (44%) of the Class of 2004 responded to the survey. The numerical information below is rounded to the nearest percent of those responding to each question.

  • 78% of respondents have already received, are currently enrolled in or are currently in the process of enrolling/applying to a graduate program
  • 11% of respondents hope to pursue further graduate education later

 

The seven most common degrees pursued by the respondents (already received, currently enrolled in, or currently enrolling/applying) are:

  • Law - 14%
  • Teaching - 12%
  • Medical Doctor/Doctor of Osteopathy - 11%
  • Master’s programs in science, technology, engineering and mathematics - 9%
  • Business and management - 6%
  • Master’s programs in the social sciences - 5%
  • Doctoral programs in science, technology, engineering and mathematics - 5%

Of those who pursued further education after CC:

  • 19% began a program “within months after graduation”
  • 17% began a program one year after graduation
  • 20% began a program two years after graduation from CC
  • 15% began a program three years after graduation from CC
  • 16% began a program four years after graduating from CC
  • 12% reported that they were enrolling in or applying for a program at the time when they completed the survey.
  • In the year after graduation, 64% of respondents were employed full-time; 17% were in graduate school full or part-time
  • Currently, 29% of respondents are enrolled in graduate school full or part-time

In the year following graduation, the most common occupational fields of the respondents were:

  • Education - 24%
  • Nonprofit - 17%
  • Business - 11%
  • Hotel/Restaurant/Hospitality - 11%
  • Arts/Entertainment - 7%

Currently, the most common occupational fields of the respondents are:

  • Education - 19%
  • Health/Medicine - 17%
  • Nonprofit - 12%
  • Arts/Entertainment - 10%
  • Law - 9%

Of the 224 alumni who responded to the question about the extent to which they felt settled in a career or career direction:

  • 53% of respondents indicate that they are “very happy with the career path I am on”
  • 30% indicate that they are “happy but may change directions”
