California State University, Chico Parent Guide
From Your House to Our House
The residential life program at Chico State encourages personal growth in a residential setting. It provides a climate where the community atmosphere complements the educational mission of the University.
Each residence community has a professional full time coordinator and an assistant coordinator as well as student resident advisors for each living area. There is also a programming and leadership coordinator who initiates educational, social, and athletic activities within the University Housing communities.
On-Campus Residence Halls
Chico State provides five on-campus residence halls reserved primarily for incoming freshmen (the sixth, Sutter Hall, which will be home to 200 students and state-of-the-art dining facilities, is scheduled to open in fall 2010). Most residence hall rooms are double-occupancy, but there are some single and triple rooms in Whitney.
Whitney Hall, the largest of the residence halls, houses 544 students in a high-rise setting. Lassen and Shasta, twin halls, each offer room for 210 students. At the north end of campus are the smaller residence halls, Esken and Mechoopda, which house 112 and 120 students, respectively. Konkow Hall is made up of six theme houses, home to 78 students.
University Apartments
University Village is the only Universityowned apartment community and most unique student housing facility in Chico. This resident community provides mostly cluster-style living with up to 6 students sharing kitchen and bathroom facilities. Approximately 600 Chico State students will call University Village home for the academic year.
University Village is primarily firsttime freshmen, however second-year, transfer students, and international students can request residence here, too. The cluster styled apartments are fully furnished, so living at University Village means you don’t have to provide furniture, arrange for utilities, or phone and internet connections.
Meal Plans
The five on-campus residence halls include a 15-meal-a-week plan. Students can use their meal cards in the Whitney Hall all-you-care-to-eat dining room or at a variety of dining facilities on campus. Students who live in Konkow Hall or University Village have the option of purchasing a 5-, 10- or 15-meal-a-week plan.
Living Off Campus
Most students at Chico State choose to live off campus after their first year. With 80 percent of students living within two miles of campus, there are plenty of off-campus housing options available, including houses, duplexes,
