Transfer Student- Admission Requirements

Upper-Division Transfers

Upper-division applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Complete at least 60 transferable semester units (90 quarter units)
  • Complete, prior to transfer, at least 30 semester units of general education with a C or better. The 30 units must include all of the general education requirements in communication (oral communication, English composition, critical thinking), and one course of at least 3 units in college-level mathematics.
  • Have a cumulative transferable grade point average of at least 2.0 or better (minimum of 2.4 grade point average if a non-resident of California) in college course work.
  • Be in good academic standing at the last institution attended.

PLEASE NOTE:  All requirements must be completed by the spring (for fall applicants) or fall term (for spring applicants).  NO summer or intersession work immediately preceding the entry term will be allowed.  You will be required to show proof that you have completed all of the above requirements before you will be allowed to register.

Lower-Division Transfers

Please check with the Office of Admissions to find out if lower-division applications are being accepted.  If not and you are a lower-division student and do not meet the eligibility index from high school, we recommend that you continue your education at a California community college and complete 60 or more transferable semester units (90 or more quarter units) before attempting to transfer to a CSU campus.

Lower-division transfers must meet the following requirements:

  • Meet CSU eligibility index requirements based upon high school grade point average for grades 10, 11, 12 and ACT or SAT-I.
  • Complete all college preparatory subject requirements from high school: 2 yrs social science, 4 yrs English, 3 yrs math (Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II), 2 yrs lab science, 2 yrs foreign language (in the same language), 1 yr visual and performing arts, and 1 yr of elective.
  • Have a cumulative transferable grade point average of at least a 2.0 in college course work.
  • Be in good academic standing at the last institution attended.

PLEASE NOTE:  Before you will be allowed to register for classes, you must take the EPT (English Placement Test) and/or ELM (Entry Level Math) unless you are exempt.  If you are completing general education math and/or English during the term prior to attending Chico, you must provide verification of your grade in these courses.
