Of Chico's 13 intercollegiate athletic teams, it looks like 8 will see postseason play. During the fall, men's soccer, men's cross country, and women's cross country all made it into the postseason. Men's and women's cross country both ended the year ranked fifth in the NCAA Division II standings. Men's soccer made it to the NCAA quarterfinals after becoming Western Region champs.

Spring sports are also looking great for postseason play. Leading the field, literally, the Chico State men's golf team earned a number 1 ranking in NCAA Division II nation-wide standings on April 7, 2011. Baseball, with a 25-8 season record as of April 18, are ranked second in the NCAA Division II Western Region and ninth in the nation, while softball, 27-12 on the season, is ranked fifth in the NCAA Division II Western Region. Both men's and women's track and field are both looking likely for postseason contention as well.

While we take great pride in the athletic accomplishments of our students, we are equally proud of their accomplishments academically. Three of our student athletes were recognized during the Founder's Week University Awards Reception held on April 12. Molly Collins, from the women's basketball team, received the Wells Fargo Community Service Award, Jake Lovisolo, from the men's basketball team, received the Bud Hanna Scholar Athlete Award, and Shannon Rich, from both the women's cross country and women's track and field teams, received the Richard Dahl Scholar Athlete Award.
