The counselor for career exploration and planning is available by appointment to assist students and alumni in identifying majors, careers, and graduate programs. Students unclear about their career goals and how to identify them should consider registering for a career assessment prior to talking with a career counselor.
Career Assessments:
Assessments are a way for you to find your personality preferences, interests, values, skills, and preferred lifestyle.
The Career Center offers several types of standardized assessments including:
- Myers-Briggs Type Indicator - $10.00 Fee
- Strong Interest Inventory - $10.00 Fee
- CPP Online Career Assessment
Register to participate and pay your fees in the Career Center office.
Employment Counseling:
The Career Center offers individual counseling and several workshops each semester to assist students and alumni with the implementation of an effective career search. Placement counselors are available by appointment during regular work hours throughout the year. During the on-campus recruiting period each semester, counselors are also available on a drop-in basis from 1-4 p.m. to review resumes and cover letters and to assist students through the recruiting process.

- Declare a major and meet with an academic advisor to plan a four-year study course.

- Draft a resume and have it reviewed by a career counselor. Resume writing resources available at http://www.csuchico.edu/plc/resume.html.
- Register with the Internship Center. Find an internship or position in the career field that interests you. Internship information is available online at http://ids.csuchico.edu/ once you have registered with the center.
- Continue career exploration, branching out to consider fields that you might not have considered before.
- Meet with your academic advisor.

- Register with the Career Center to participate in job research, apply for jobs online, receive job announcements, and post your resume.
- Find a career mentor. More information on mentors is available from the career center.
- If you have not already done a career internship, this is a good time to find one in your preferred career field. An internship will provide essential job experience that will be very valuable after graduation. Many internships offer the added benefit of providing career networks and even potential job opportunities.
- Register with the Career Center to attend career fairs.
- Meet with your academic advisor.
- If you are planning to graduate next year, file for graduation with Academic Advising and Evaluations before May 15.

- Update your resume.
- Meet with your academic advisor early each semester to verify you are on track to graduate.
- Register with the Career Center to attend career fairs.
- Upload your resume, transcripts, and letters of recommendation to the Career Center Website. Instructions available at http://www.csuchico.edu/plc/wildcat-recr-instr.html.
- Meet with a career counselor and plan to attend workshops on interviewing, utilizing the career center, negotiating salary, and much more.
- Attend employer presentations and thoroughly research companies of interest.
- Participate in on-campus interviewing.
- Follow up with contacts.
