SIFE Team Wins Regional Competition

The Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) team from California State University, Chico traveled to San Francisco last week and came away as regional champions in the SIFE USA Regional Competition on April 6. They won first place in the Environmental Sustainability Individual Competition along the way.

Model United Nations Delegation Brings Home Awards from National Conference

Twenty-seven California State University, Chico Model United Nations students, with nine co-team members from the Japanese Model United Nations program, participated in the National Model United Nations Conference in New York, March 28-April 2. The delegation brought home an Outstanding Position Papers award and two Distinguished Delegation awards.

Admitted Students Preview Day

On Saturday, April 10, Chico State hosted the inaugural Admitted Students Spring Preview Day. Admissions received 2,800 reservations from newly admitted students and their families. New students were welcomed by University President Paul Zingg, were invited on campus walking tours, housing tours, Wildcat Recreation Center tours, trolley tours of downtown Chico, and a myriad of department tours.

The University has an enrollment target of 2,100 new first year students and 1,900 transfer students for fall 2010. The Preview Event gives admitted students the opportunity to view this wonderful campus of ours, and provides departments and colleges from campus the opportunity to showcase some of the incredible students and programs here at the University.

Assault on AS President Joseph Igbineweka

Many of you have seen television or newspaper coverage of the heinous attack on AS President Joseph Igbineweka that occurred during the early morning hours of Sunday, April 18. The following is a letter sent to the campus community jointly from University President Paul Zingg and Chico Mayor Ann Schwab. In addition to the open forum held on Monday, April 19 in the Bell Memorial Union, a unity rally was held Friday, April 23 in the Student Services Center plaza. The unity rally, organized by Black Leaders on Campus, a student organization, had as its purpose unification of the campus community to show support for Igbineweka.
