Here is a short glossary of terms that may help you understand your student’s new CPP vocabulary:

Academic Advisor
A faculty or professional staff member who assists your student with the development of an educational plan for graduation.

Academic Probation
When a student’s overall or Cal Poly Pomona grade point average falls below 2.0, he/she must improve his/her GPA in the next year to avoid being dis-enrolled based on lack of academic progress.

Add/Drop
The first two weeks of the term when classes can be added or dropped without penalty.

Billy Bronco
CPP’s official mascot.

BlackBoard (Bb)
A web-based course management system used to post course information, create discussion boards, submit term papers and homework, etc.

Book Buyback
Time at the end of the term to sell used textbooks back to the Bronco Bookstore.

Bronco Access Card
Student ID card.

Bronco Bucks
Money that students (or parents) can put on their Bronco Access Card that enables them to use their ID as a debit card at campus establishments.

BroncoBytes
A bi-weekly student e-newsletter that serves as the source for campus information (i.e. important dates, deadlines, events, etc.)

BroncoConnection
Online database hosting hundreds of on- and off-campus jobs.

BroncoDirect
CPP’s “self-service” website where students can conduct important business (i.e. pay tuition, check financial aid, register for classes, etc.).

BroncoFusion
A new student welcome event that occurs the day before school starts in Fall that promotes new student connections to faculty, staff, administrators and continuing students.

Bronco Number
Student ID number.

CA (Community Advisor)
Paraprofessional student staff member who oversees residents in the University Village Apartments.

CLA (Classroom/Laboratory/Administration Building)
Houses administrative, student service and faculty offices in addition to classrooms, computer labs, etc.

CPP (Cal Poly Pomona)
Acronym for our University.

CR/NC (Credit/No Credit)
An alternative grading option offered for some courses. 

Curriculum Sheet
A list of the core and support courses required for a particular major and suggests General Education classes that will result in the most efficient path to a degree in that major.

Degree Progress Report
Commonly called the “degree audit”, it indicates which requirements have been satisfied and which ones still must be completed.

EPT (English Placement Test)
Tests new students for competency and placement into appropriate English courses.

ELM (Entry-Level Math Test)
Tests new students for competency and placement into appropriate Math courses.

EO665
Executive Order issued by the CSU system to establish requirements for bringing students up to University levels in English and Math.

FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid)
Application your student may file annually with the US Department of Education to determine eligibility for financial aid.

FERPA (Federal Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act)
A federal law establishing the protection of privacy of student education records.

GE (General Education)
Classes that help broaden skills and knowledge beyond the student’s major.

GPA (Grade Point Average)
The average grade that is figured by dividing the grade points earned by the number of credits attempted.

GWT (Graduation Writing Test)
A test required of all CPP students that determines college level writing proficiency.

Hold
This places a restriction on a student’s ability to register for classes or access services.

IGE (Interdisciplinary General Education)
A discussion based and team-work oriented curriculum pattern that satisfies University General Education requirements.

MDPT (Math Diagnostic Placement Test)
The test that is a prerequisite for students whose coursework will include higher-level math.

Prerequisite
Successfully completed course(s), skills or knowledge a student must possess or complete prior to enrolling in or taking a class.

Priority Registration
A window of time when eligible students are able to register for courses before the regular registration period begins.

RA (Resident Advisor)
Paraprofessional student staff member who oversees residents in the residence halls.

Road Map
A quarter-by-quarter plan of the courses required for a particular major.

Schedule Adjustment Period
A week in August for students to add, drop, or adjust their Fall class schedule.

Schedule of Classes
Online listing of classes offered for the term.

Syllabus
A typed summary of course expectations provided by the course instructor that outlines requirements, assignments, etc.

Transfer Credit Report
A report that includes all course work transferred into CPP.

U-Hour (University Hour)
Tuesdays and Thursdays, 12 – 1 p.m., when CPP does not offer any classes.
