University Ministry is excited to announce many upcoming Alternative Break opportunities! From Cuernavaca, Mexico to Appalachia to our own city of Chicago, your son or daughter will have the opportunity to join other Dominican stars as they explore and engage some of the world's deepest needs over the winter, spring, and summer breaks. See below for an overview of the opportunities available. Students can contact the University Ministry Center (Lewis 216) to learn more.

WINTER: JANUARY 2 - 9, 2010

Cuernavaca, Mexico.  Engage in service in Cuernavaca with opportunities to explore culture, social justice, poverty, global Fair Trade, cross-cultural communication and other issues with our Mexican neighbors.

Immigration Awareness Experience: site to be determined: Explore the pressing issues behind the immigration debate, most especially through an immersion into the migrant experience.

SPRING BREAK: March 6 - 13, 2010, except Urban Plunge which is March 6 - 9, 2010

Nazareth Farm, WV: Experience the rich cultural heritage of Appalachia as you come together with college students from across the country for a week of home repair, community building, faith sharing, and simple living.  No experience in home construction necessary.

Cherith Brook Catholic Worker Community in Kansas City, MO:  Experience the complexity of urban poverty and violence, as well as creative ways to address both by joining in the day-to-day work of this Catholic Worker community.

Habitat For Humanity: site to be determined:   Explore the issue of affordable housing while also using your hands to construct a much needed Habitat for Humanity home.  No experience in home construction necessary.

Chicago Urban Plunge: Experience this short-term immersion into some of the more acute social issues facing the city of Chicago, and join with individuals and organizations that are creatively and boldly addressing these issues

SUMMER: MAY 9 - 15, 2010:
Bethlehem Farm, WV:   Gather with college students from across the country as you join in the work of Bethlehem Farm, a community committed to social justice, prayer, sustainable living, and community.  No experience in home construction necessary.
