So far, DU has not experienced a level of flu activity that would interfere with our learning environment, thanks to the cooperation of the entire community with efforts to prevent and safely manage the flu. This thanksgiving we are grateful for:

  • Students, staff and faculty who have the wisdom to recover off campus
  • Our community that supports students, staff and faculty who are ill
  • Our online H1H1 tracking tool
  • Gallons of sanitizer, soap, water and wipes employed by the community to keep contagion low.

We expect the ‘regular' flu season to begin and H1N1 to continue, so we must all remain vigilant in flu prevention and care. Contact the Wellness Center if you have questions: wellness@dom.edu 708-524-6229.

Students under 24 years of age or with health conditions are in the risk priority group for receiving the H1N1 vaccination, and we recommend students be vaccinated, especially if they are living in student housing.

As students return home for the holidays, it's a great opportunity to obtain a H1N1 Flu Vaccine at a local health department. Dominican University has requested an allocation of H1N1 vaccination but like all private providers, we have been given no information about when we might receive that allocation. In the Cook County, Illinois area H1N1 vaccinations are widely available at local health departments. Most require an appointment be made in advance.

Based on student's Dominican address, their public health provider is Cook County Public Health Department. Cook County vaccination clinics are located in 4 regional offices. You may schedule an appointment for any region by calling any of the locations, so if you get a busy signal, try one of the other numbers.
