The Wellness Center has a limited supply of Meningitis vaccines available at a reduced rate, students should call by March 15th to schedule an appointment: 708-524-6229.
About 100 to 125 cases of meningitis are reported on college campuses each year, and five to fifteen students will die from the affliction annually, according to the American College Health Association (ACHA). The disease is highly contagious and progresses quickly. The bacteria can spread from person-to-person through the air when a person sneezes or coughs. Symptoms resemble the flu, so the disease can be hard to diagnose. The ACHA recommends that all first-year students living in residence halls receive the meningitis vaccine.
