Access to Student Educational Records
In keeping with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974, as amended (FERPA), students are accorded the following rights:
- Students attending post-secondary institutions must be permitted to inspect and review their own education records.
- Institutions may not disclose information about students nor permit inspection of their records without their permission unless such action is covered by certain exceptions as stipulated in the act. This act was instituted to protect the rights of the students. Therefore, educational records are considered confidential, and information may not be disclosed, even to parents, unless written permission is received from the student. More information on education records and student rights is available on the Registrar’s website under “FERPA”.
