You’re about to embark on an exciting, but daunting, adventure. You’re not alone if you’re feeling a mixture of excitement and dread. You may wonder, “What is my role now that my child is in college?”

You’ve probably heard the term ‘helicopter parent.’ A ‘helicopter parent’ hovers over every aspect of a child’s life. That may have been appropriate when your child was 2, 6 or even 14 years old. Now, however, it is not only inappropriate, it is actually damaging to your child’s development.

Did You Know?

Did you know: Denver

  1. Denver is truly one mile high: The 13th step on the west side of the State Capitol is 5,280 feet above sea level.
  2. Denver is one of the few cities in history that was not on a road, railroad, lake, navigable river or body of water when it was founded. Denver is where the first flakes of gold were found in 1858 and it was here that the first camp was made. The first permanent structure built was a saloon.
  3. Denver receives 300 days of sunshine a year – more than San Diego or Miami Beach.

The Denver Climate

Denver boasts a moderate climate where the weather is typically mild and dry. During the fall and winter, daytime temperatures can range from very warm to crisp and cool.  Sunglasses are a must, with nearly 300 days of sunny weather each year.  Because DU is located one mile above sea level, please be sure to drink plenty of water and allow time to acclimate to the altitude.
