PREPARING FOR FINALS & MOVE-OUT

Words of wisdom from a parent of a Senior student ...

Some tips I learned from my daughter in studying for Finals:

  • Start preparing study materials well in advance of the final-at least two weeks before the final date.
  • Study each day/night and study in different locations eg., study one topic or subject in the library, study another outside under a tree, etc. She seemed to successfully retain what she studied when she remembered the location.
  • If a professor gives the students study guides, ... USE THEM!
  • If an SI Leader holds a review session before the final, ... ATTEND!
  • Get plenty of rest each evening and try not to skip meals.

Move-Out Recipe:

1 Jar of Spackle

1 Small Can of Paint (color varies)

1 Broom

1 Mop

1 Handtruck

1 Roll Shipping Tape

A pinch of boxes and a dab of bubble wrap

1 Load of Hopes & Dreams

Apply spackle and paint as needed. Push the broom, mop, and handtruck accordingly. Use the shipping tape, boxes and bubble wrap to contain what is left in dorm after rummage.

As for the load of Hopes & Dreams ...  Just follow them!

In closing, whether your student continues on at FAU for the summer months or graduates and pursues their career, allow them the room they need to continue to mature and still learn from their experiences.  As Graham Nash wrote in the lyrics to the song Teach Your Children:

"And feed them on your dreams, the ones they picked, the one you're known by.

Don't you ever ask them why, if they told you you would cry,

So just look at them and sigh ... and know they love you."
