Welcome Parents & Families!

On behalf of President Mark B. Rosenberg, the faculty, staff, and students of Florida International University, welcome to our community! We are thrilled to have you joining us for the 2009 Homecoming and Parent & Family Weekend. At FIU, we offer our students a quality educational experience by providing accredited degree programs, a variety of co-curricular activities, and a strong commitment to diversity. We are excited about your decision to join the Golden Panther family and encourage you to take advantage of the many opportunities you will be presented with over the next few years.

We are proud to have you visit FIU during a very exciting time. On the athletic front, FIU football entered its eighth season, after a fantastic year in the new on-campus stadium, which opened September 20, 2008. The College of Law graduated its fifth class and is at home in its new state-of-the-art building. The university also welcomed its first class to the Wertheim College of Medicine this fall. The College of Law, the medical school, and football help FIU reach new heights.

We appreciate your involvement in your student’s life and recognize the critical importance parents and family members play in the success of your student. Attendance at Homecoming and Parent & Family Weekend is a great way to celebrate your student’s achievements, and further explore the dynamic culture of the University through participating in an outstanding University tradition.

Beyond Homecoming and Parent & Family Weekend, FIU is committed to keeping the parents and families
of our students informed and involved. The Parent Guide is one of many resources that help us live up to this commitment of parent engagement at the collegiate level. I hope that this handbook will provide information that will be helpful to you and your student as members of the Golden Panther family. We look forward to partnering with families to help students chart the course of a very successful journey during their time at Florida International University.
