Dear FSU Parents & Family Members:
On behalf of President Barron and the faculty, staff, and students of The Florida State University, welcome to our community! We are so pleased that your family has chosen to become part of our Florida State family.
Florida State is a special place where your students can learn, grow, and realize their dreams. Whether those dreams include taking advantage of being in the Capitol of Florida or experiencing our breadth of opportunities in scholarship, leadership, service, the arts and athletics, I am confident that each student will find support for achievement. We pride ourselves on being student-centered so we stand ready to assist as they seek help and search for answers to their questions. Resources abound in advising, providing information, and even offering encouragement and moral support!
During Orientation you will learn about these resources and the rich traditions that make Florida State the unique institution that it is. From our earlier days as Florida State College for Women, we have retained an atmosphere of caring and collaboration. Our primary purpose is to make sure that each student succeeds in reaching his/her goals.
Our communication with students’ families is an important element to providing a positive college career. Like your roles, our relationship with students will change as they begin Florida State. We will move from simply answering their initial questions and concerns to “coaching” them in how to find answers themselves and resolve issues, which present challenges.
I hope that this handbook will provide information that will be helpful to you and your student as new members of our Seminole family. We look forward to partnering with families to help students chart the course of a very successful Florida State experience.
