The mission of the Dean of Students Department is to support the academic mission of Florida State University and the Division of Student Affairs by providing services, resources, and advocacy for all our students through creative problem-solving, accessibility to students, accountability, and a thorough approach to their work.
The Dean of Students Department fulfills this mission through the following offices: New Student & Family Programs, Greek Life, Student Rights and Responsibilities, Withdrawals, Victim Advocate Program, and the Student Disability Resource Center.

The Dean of Students Department's Office of New Student & Family Programs coordinates a number of programs designed to support your FSU experience.
The First Year Experience course is a unique elective course that helps new students transition to FSU and college life, exploring FSU resources and involvement opportunities plus enhancing understanding of the demands and excitement of being at FSU. Classes are small and concentrate on developing relationships with faculty, staff and other FSU students.
One Book / One Campus is FSU's first-year shared-reading program. The program is designed to engage students in a community dialogue with faculty, administrators, and their peers as soon as they arrive on campus. Discussions, course assignments, and other activities centering around the book's themes and information will be introduced into the freshmen year - supporting critical thinking and college success.
Family members, are invited to link with services and information available through Family Connection. Family Connection serves as a link between the University, a student's family, and the Tallahassee Community.
Victim Advocate Program

The FSU Victim Advocate Program responds 24-hours a day to victims of sexual battery, relationship violence, stalking, physical battery, robbery and other crimes. The program serves FSU students who are victimized on or off campus, non-students who are victimized on the FSU campus or by an FSU student, as well as parents’ and friends of those who have been victimized. Advocates provide emotional support and practical assistance to victims. They make referrals to appropriate medical care, counseling, and judicial/legal services, and will contact professors and family members when requested. All services provided are free and confidential. An advocate can be reached by calling (850) 644-7161 or (850) 644-2277 (weekdays), or by calling the FSU Police Department at (nights and weekends) and asking to speak to a victims advocate.

SDRC aids in making University programs and services accessible to qualified students with documented disabilities. To receive services, students must register with SDRC, present appropriate documentation of their disability, meet with an SDRC staff member to determine appropriate level of services and accommodations, and participate in the delivery of services. Reasonable accommodations are provided at no cost to students. An accessible van is available for on-campus transportation needs for any student with mobility impairments whether temporary or permanent.

Every college student, at some point, faces the possibility of enduring a hardship that may require withdrawal from the University. The withdrawal office is here to assist both the student and their parents’ by analyzing the student’s situation and exploring other possible alternatives first, before facing the possible interruption of their University enrollment. The office will make sure that the students and their Parents’ are well advised of the policies and procedures, thus allowing them to make an informed decision.

Since 1904 fraternities and sororities have remained an integral part of The Florida State University community. These values-based organizations have more than 3600 members in 50 organizations. All of these organizations are based on the ideals of leadership, scholarship, service, and friendship. Many of these students are involved on campus in activities including: Student Government, honor societies, intramurals, Service Scholars, Dance Marathon, and so much more.
