Illinois Institute of Technology Parent Guide
Academic Advising
Each undergraduate student is assigned an academic adviser who is available to discuss opportunities and career plans in the student’s chosen field as well as to plan and approve coursework to meet department and university requirements. Students are urged to consult their advisers often. The associate chairs of a department (or their counterparts) also offer information on university requirements and academic procedures. Please refer to the Undergraduate Bulletin for individual department advising information.
When a student is admitted to IIT the first chance to meet an adviser is through New Student Orientation. Each student will receive specific details regarding access to their student account along with adviser contact information.
We understand that registering for classes is a crucial experience for both parents and students. Parents are encouraged to talk with their son/daughter’s about their class schedule prior to the advising session. Together you can create a draft schedule in preparation for the advising session. This extra effort prior to the advising sessions allows for a more productive one-on-one advising meeting.
