Immaculata University Parent Guide
Welcome to Valley Forge!
Whatever your reason for coming to Immaculata University, you’ll be in the beautiful Valley Forge area, Pennsylvania, and I’d like to give you a glimpse of all there is to see and do here.
As you’ll readily note, our area’s green and rich in the natural beauty that’s the landscape for some of America’s most significant history, a wealth of cultural attractions and myriad opportunities for recreational activities.
It’s also home to the best shopping anywhere (King of Prussia Mall is America’s largest!), diverse dining for every palate and accommodations for all tastes and budgets, from charming B&Bs to luxurious full service hotels.
And it’s all easy to reach – just 35 Interstate highway minutes from Philadelphia International Airport and 18 Interstate miles from Amtrak’s Center City, Philadelphia 30th Street Station. By car, we’re at the intersection of the Pennsylvania Turnpike and connections to three major North-South Interstates.
Our centerpiece attraction is Valley Forge National Historical Park (shown above), the lush 3,600-acre site of the winter of 1777-78 encampment of General George Washington and his fledgling Continental Army. Not a single shot was fired in anger during that harsh winter. Instead, it was then and there that some 12,000 cold, starving and ragtag troops were forged into a force that went on to win America’s…and your…independence.
Flowering dogwoods and mountain laurel dot the landscape of the Park each spring, to the delight of walkers, runners and cyclists. And an annual autumnal transformation to a sea of flaming foliage earned its recognition, by the National Park Service, as one of America’s top 10 parks for “leaf-peeping.” Visitors also enjoy horseback-riding, fly fishing on Valley Creek, historical monuments and the Visitors Center and, more so, the wonderment of wandering in the footsteps of their forefathers - America’s founders.
I’ve mentioned here just a sampling of the appeals that draw our visitors. If you’re visiting for your first time or, if yours is to be a four-year stay, I hope you’ll take full advantage of everything there is to enjoy. And you can find it all if you start with a visit to www.valleyforge.org.
Our proud and diverse hospitality community looks forward to welcoming you!
