Parents and Family Letter

Dear Parents & Family Friends,

Welcome to Tiger Country!

Jackson State University prides itself on its relationship with our parents and our family friends and we want to enhance this experience and help build sustaining relationships between you, your sons and daughters, and the faculty and staff at JSU.

If you are reading this, you are full of mixed emotions ranging from-"hallelujah, we finally have the house to ourselves!' to "Is she going to be ok? to "I miss him already." This is completely normal and expected. You should be commended for providing the encouragement for your student to make the step from high school to college. This is a great gift and your support up to this point and during the next few years is priceless in your student's development.

Parents play a particularly important role in their son's or daughter's college experience. To assist you in this endeavor, we are reviving and enhancing our Parents program by launching a Parents and Family Association in the fall of 2009. The Parents and Family Association is to help build sustaining relationships between parents, students and JSU by promoting effective working partnerships. Membership will provide networking opportunities, e-parent newsletters concerning campus programming and information on transitions of your students into the world of higher education, invitations to members-only events and opportunities to volunteer for various service opportunities with other parents at the university and in your communities.

Parents and families can always utilize our website at www.jsums.edu/parents. The website is a great resource that provides additional information to help your family, as well as your son or daughter, make a smooth transition into college life. It also has additional contact information about support services available to our students.
