Thank you for coming to our parent orientation today at Kennesaw State University!

We hope that today will be a day of learning for you as well as your student.  Today will be filled with joy, excitement, as well as some apprehensions. It is our hope that when you leave campus today you leave with the tools to be the best, most informed parent of your KSU student.  This parent guide has been designed to help you Navigate through our university.

Today, and in the future, we challenge you to allow your student to experience activities and programs here at KSU on their own. Today, they also have an interactive orientation program that has been designed specifically for them in their transition. We know that you have nurtured and loved your son or daughter for many years and that love will never change! You are still their parent and they are still your child. This is a time though to evaluate the relationship that you want to have with your son or daughter as they become a college student.

This is a wonderful time for your student to learn responsibility, communication skills, and autonomy. You will see your son or daughter progress as they come home for visits throughout the semester. Your student will become more self reliant as you allow them to navigate through the university on their own instead of helping them with each decision.

Encourage your student to explore and come up with what they think is the best solution for the problems that may arise. This will be a time of adjustment for you as a parent, as well as with your student.  Know that they will still need your love and support, but will ultimately need you to teach them to help themselves. Thank you parents for helping get your students to this point!  Now is the time to trust that you have done a great job and challenge them to compose themselves as adults, and embrace the world that is in their hands! Go forth and dream!
