Move - In Day 2009

Students sitting around campus

Getting off on the right foot in college can sometimes require tough love! If your student is living on campus, move in day is exciting, but can also be hot and stressful. First, just bring the basics. It's unlikely we'll have a snowstorm in August so the winter clothes can come later. Second, if you don't already own it, it might be better to wait until you arrive and let the roommates shop together, especially for common area items. Third, after your student gets settled in, go home...and make your student stay here. Here is where the tough love begins. Sometimes, especially if students are close enough to visit home, they revert back to what is comfortable. The first few weeks AND weekends of college are so critical for student success, both socially and academically. Even if your student gets home sick, make them stay here! There are lots of activities every day and night to help students meet each other and connect to KSU. The time and energy invested on the front end will pay off in student's GPAs.

Also make sure you know the day and time you are scheduled to move in. With over 3000 students moving on campus, we spread out the check in times across multiple days to make the experience more pleasant for everyone. Go to http://www.kennesaw.edu/residencelife/checkinsched2009.pdf.
