Unconventional Spring Break Ideas for your Student

For college students bogged down by mid-terms and winter’s lingering chill, Spring Break is a dream soon-to-come-true. For parents, the thought of Spring Break as expensive, all-inclusive trips, and week-long parties is a nightmare. But just because certain movies and shows present Spring Break as an excuse for debauchery, parents can rest assured that most students’ breaks don’t fit the stereotype.

It is the time of year we are preparing to receive our students back from college to join us in many family traditions and holiday events.  Remembering that these young adults have now forged a new path into their future by becoming more independent learning new skills and adopting some new behaviors, I'd like to take a moment to share some thoughts with you.  The social life of the college student can look very different from the social life of a high school senior.  You might take time to talk to your student over this break about some of the new experiences they have encountered.

Parent Tips for Managing the Holiday Break

As a parent you are likely looking forward to having your student home for a relaxing and joyous holiday break.  It may have been several months since you've seen your student.  It's likely that you are anticipating how the time will be spent:  Nice family dinners, visiting with extended family, attending church services together, long talks about classes and college life, endless shopping and trimming the tree with your student. Our hope is that things go as planned, but as in life, you may hit a few bumps in the road along the way.

Welcome Kennesaw State University’s First Parent and Family Association!

We heard parents loud and clear over the past few years that they wanted their own association to assist students in their growth and development during the college years. This was something that was desired for our campus through staff, faculty and administration and now we are excited to let you know we have been approved to start! To fill you in, our mission is to create a parent and family connection to the University in order to create institutional loyalty and affinity in the entire family and to support students at KSU through the development of targeted communication, innovative programs, and opportunities for social interaction.
