“It is important to carry on that tradition,” Megan Olney, legacy student and sophomore in hotel and restaurant management, said. “It’s fun to have the same school in common with family members and the sharing of stories.”

The K-State Parents and Family Association is a way for families to actively engage in their student’s college experience by participating in campus programs and activities specifically geared towards families. Parents and family members of K-State students are automatically members of the K-State Parents and Family Association! As a member you will receive invitations to fun events like Family Day, the annual Taste of K-State event and Open House. In addition, you will also have access to the K-State Parents and Family Association hotline, Web site, and e-mail address.

Favorite activities include the Legacy Pinning Ceremony & Brunch and K-State trivia and Look-A-Like contests. A variety of other attractions will be available on campus that day: live music and entertainment, campus tours, and an ice cream social put on by the College of Architecture, Planning and Design, are just a few.

K-State PROUD Campaign

In February 2008, Student Foundation and more than 200 student volunteers coordinated the second annual K-State PROUD campaign. The PROUD T-shirt for 2008 was the official T-shirt of the Big Monday basketball game against Texas. Frank Martin, head coach of the men’s basketball team and honorary chair of the 2008 K-State Proud student campaign, revealed the final campaign total to the student section before the basketball game on Feb. 25, 2008. The goal of the campaign in its second year was to raise $75,000.

K-State Family of the Year

Anyone can nominate any family they want, and the nomination form can be downloaded and filled out. The family is selected and awarded through K-State’s Chimes junior honorary.

“The criterion is based on the family’s affiliation with K-State, their level of involvement in K-State currently and previously and how the individuals value their family and exhibit great family characteristics,” said Jessica Miller, programming chair for Family Day. “This doesn’t mean the family has to be a traditional one, because family can be different things to different people.”
