K-State Family of the Year

Do you have K-State alumnus in your family that you think are incredibly loyal to the purple and white? Does your family attend many K-State athletic events during the academic year? Do they visit Manhattan so often they might as well live here? If your family is any number of these, or all of them, nominate them for the K-State Family of the Year award!

Anyone can nominate any family they want, and the nomination form can be downloaded and filled out. The family is selected and awarded through K-State’s Chimes junior honorary.

“The criterion is based on the family’s affiliation with K-State, their level of involvement in K-State currently and previously and how the individuals value their family and exhibit great family characteristics,” said Jessica Miller, programming chair for Family Day. “This doesn’t mean the family has to be a traditional one, because family can be different things to different people.”

After a family is awarded as the K-State Family of the Year, they are always honored at the Chimes Family Day brunch. In previous years they have been honored at a volleyball game. Sometimes due to scheduling, there is no volleyball game and the family is honored at a different event.

The family of Meryl and Nancy Wilson of Manhattan received a plaque for being Family of the Year in 2007. Their family was honored at a dinner theater in the K-State Student Union, part of the Family Day events. An article about their family was also published in the K-Stater Magazine.
