School of Religion
The faculty of the School of Religion aims to train students to study, understand, interpret and apply the Word of God through courses in inductive Bible study, hermeneutics and biblical backgrounds, and through applying these techniques to the books of the Bible - By the time they graduate students should be able to minister the Word more effectively and be prepared to enter graduate study or various kinds of full-time ministry including Pastoral Leadership Programs, Youth Ministry, Women’s Ministry and Inter-Cultural Studies. All courses and programs in the School of Religion are designed to make a transformational impact in the life of your son or daughter.
College of Arts and Sciences
The College of Arts and Sciences is the largest academic entity at Liberty University and includes the following departments and centers: History, Psychology, Counseling, Family and Consumer Science, Band, Math, Music, Theatre, Nursing, Creation Studies, Biology and Chemistry, Health Sciences and ROTC. Though the disciplines are diverse, these majors all emphasize academic excellence, engaging teaching, career and professional development and a Christ-centered perspective.
School of Aeronautics
The School of Aeronautics, utilizing state of the art airplanes, helicopters and aviation mechanical equipment, trains and mentors young men and women to become exceptional pilots, mechanics and flight attendants who possess excellent technical skills, sound judgment, professional aptitude and strong Christian character. Our graduates serve in the commercial airline industry, the Armed Services and missionary aviation.
School of Business
The School of Business prepares men and women to serve in Accounting, Marketing, International Business, Finance, Financial Planning, Management and Human Resources, and they’re taught by professionals who have worked in these fields for many years. The distinguishing traits of Liberty graduates, though, include the character, integrity, and values they bring to the workplace. Liberty’s School of Business is a place where the mind is challenged and faith is strengthened.
Helms School of Government
The Helms School of Government prepares students to understand and articulate the Biblical Christian sources of our religious, economic and political liberties, and equip them to become Christ-centered leaders, able to apply God’s Word in every area of life. The Helms School of Government currently offers ten residential degree programs. Students from other disciplines can pursue minors in Politics and Policy, International Relations, Pre-Law and Criminal Justice. Two programs are also offered as LU Online Programs. Proposals under consideration include a capstone course for all Government and Criminal Justice programs and a PhD in Government.
Integrated Learning Resource Center
The Integrated Learning Resource Center (ILRC), is the center for academic research and study. Resources include large collections of print and electronic materials, multiple computing facilities for student use, designated quiet study spaces, group study rooms and a large casual reading area.
School of Communication
The School of Communication is “home” to two large academic departments: (1) English and Modern Languages, and (2) Communication Studies.
Student majors include the B.A. in English, Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL) and Spanish. All three of these majors offer teacher licensure.
The Communication Studies major contains specializations in speech communication, broadcasting, journalism and advertising/public relations. There is also a major in Visual Communication Arts (VCAR), featuring computer graphics and studio art.
The School sponsors the campus radio station (90.9 The Light), a recording studio, television production facilities, the campus newspaper (The Liberty Champion) and a nationally recognized yearbook (Selah).
School of Engineering and Computational Sciences
The School of Engineering and Computational Sciences is one of Liberty’s emerging programs and the first research school in the university’s history. Our focus is to train Christ-centered men and women with the values, knowledge and skills necessary to impact engineering and technology-related disciplines in the world of tomorrow. We offer degrees in: Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering with Intelligence Specialization, Industrial Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Science with Intelligence Specialization, Information Systems, and Web Technology and Design.
School of Law
Liberty University School of Law provides a superior legal education in the context of a Christian worldview. The School’s unparalleled Lawyering Skills program prepares students to enter the practice of law from day one. Our state-of-the art facility provides three moot courtrooms, one of which is modeled after the U.S. Supreme Court. This, coupled with our high bar pass rates and phenomenal success in both regional and national competitions, distinguishes Liberty among other law schools both regionally and nationally. School of Education
The School of Education is committed to developing competent professionals with a Christian worldview, for both school and sport settings. Every program offered in the School of Education is nationally accredited. Our Sport Management program was one of the first to be nationally approved by the North American Society for Sport Management (NASSM) and the National Association for Sport and Physical Education (NASPE). Our graduates have been hired in prestigious business and sport settings.
Our Teacher Licensure program offers more than 20 endorsements for elementary and secondary teachers and has been officially approved by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE), the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) and the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI).
Nursing
Liberty University is approved by the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia and is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. The BSN program is fully accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) and is approved by the Virginia Board of Nursing. Our faculty members are involved in clinical practice, possess advanced degrees and certifications in their areas of specialty and are actively involved in professional development and community service.
High academic standards are upheld and an atmosphere of nurturing, support and caring is maintained in the classroom and clinical areas. With a 10:1 student to faculty ratio in the clinical settings, students receive a great deal of individualized attention to facilitate learning as well as professional and personal growth.
