Liberty University Parent Guide
Technology Resources at Liberty
Information Technology has many services designed to help students achieve their educational goals as well as enjoy their time on campus.
Mobile-Device Features
Liberty offers students access to their e-mail on Apple, Android and Blackberry smartphones, as well as other capable mobile devices. Additionally, students with specific smartphones can download the new my LibertyU app. This app gives students access to Blackboard courses, athletics, campus maps and much more!
IT Marketplace
One of the greatest benefits Liberty students receive is the ability to purchase discounted personal computers, software and computer accessories through the IT Marketplace. Microsoft and Adobe Software can be purchased up to 80% off of normal retail value. For more information about the IT Marketplace and products that are offered visit our web site. Only those students currently enrolled in courses may purchase through the IT Marketplace.
IPTV
Liberty offers students free Internet Protocol Television (IPTV). Students can watch 19 different stations (ESPN, Discovery, ABC, etc…) through their computer, connected via Ethernet cable or a wireless-N card. This service is free to students and can be accessed anywhere on campus.
FREE Software
Liberty offers students free virus protection called Microsoft Forefront and free messaging software called Microsoft Communicator. Both can be downloaded on our web site- click on “Software Downloads”.
Internet Connection
Students can access the internet via Liberty’s high-speed wireless network, covering all student housing and academic areas.
Liberty has multiple high-capacity internet connections coming into the campus. These redundant connections are maintained by our Network Operations Center 24 hours a day/7 days a week.
Network Security
Liberty uses a software program called the Bradford Endpoint Compliance System (ECS) to ensure that all computers connected to our network belong to Liberty students or staff. This system ensures that computers are up-to-date and protected against any potential computer-related threats. Additionally, Liberty’s network has a filter that will block all content that is inappropriate and does not follow the Liberty Way such as illegal drugs, violence, pornography, etc. Protecting Liberty students and staff, providing reliable network resources and ensuring an enjoyable computing experience are top priorities.
IT HelpDesk
Liberty students receive free technical support through the IT HelpDesk. The IT HelpDesk can be reached either by phone or in person at Campus North (Room 1539). The HelpDesk exists to assist students with most computer and Liberty network problems that might keep their computers from functioning on campus. Support is regularly open seven days a week and until midnight most nights. See website for hours of operation.
