January Transformation

Perhaps you are the parent of a first-year student, fresh from a Christmas filled with gifts from the Messiah College bookstore (I still have - and use - the key ring, mug and sweatshirt my daughter gave me almost 8 years ago!). On the other hand, perhaps you are the parent of a student about to graduate and continue their adult journey. If so, you are watching a transformation in progress!

Part of the transformation my daughter (Erin '07) experienced was a cross-cultural trip to the French West Indies during her senior J-term. She enjoyed foreign travel with a focus on using her French language skills, living with a host family one week, and preparing meals of native foods in cooperation with her fellow students. She participated in Christian service and worship in a new culture and came home with a greater appreciation of her own blessings.

My son (Matthew '11) is about to experience his last J-term, and will soon be transformed into a music teacher. He is excited to student teach, and has made plans to observe in an elementary classroom while he completes his last course in humanities. He will also prepare for his senior recital near the end of J-term.

We all want our children to experience transformation during their years at Messiah College - transformation from youth to godly adulthood. What a privilege to be a witness to this process!

Romans 12:2 (New International Version, ©2010)

Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is-his good, pleasing and perfect will.
