The on-campus Student Health Service provides primary care, specialty care, and pharmacy services to eligible University of Miami students. It is conveniently located in the center of campus across the street from the Pavia garage and close to all of the residential colleges.
Students are not required to carry the Student Health Service sponsored insurance plan to utilize the services. Many services are provided free of charge and are available on a "drop-in" basis or by appointment. For additional information please visit the Student Health Service website.
Pharmacy
The pharmacy, located on the second floor of the Student Health Service, can fill prescriptions from most local and out of town medical providers. Prescription prices are often lower than at local drug stores, and most insurance plans are accepted. Refill requests can by submitted via myUM or by calling (305) 284-5922.
Health Insurance
Students enrolled in six or more credit hours per semester are required to carry adequate health insurance while they are studying at the University. (NOTE: It is required of all international students regardless of credit load.) The annual premium for the health insurance plan offered through the Student Health Service is automatically added to each student's registration statement. Domestic students with adequate alternative coverage may request a waiver of the insurance fee via myUM. For more information regarding the insurance plan, please visit the Student Health Service website.
Immunization
All new students are required to provide proof of immunization against measles, mumps and rubella. All new students must also provide proof of immunization against hepatitis B and meningococcal meningitis. An Immunization form must be completed and returned to the Student Health Service prior to arrival on campus.
International students must also be screened for risk of tuberculosis by completing page two of the Immunization form. Students can verify receipt and processing of their immunization information via the Student Health Service’s new web portal. For more information on the immunization requirement, please visit the Student Health Service website.
H1N1 Influenza
With the fall semester right around the corner, we would like to update you about H1N1 influenza and the University’s preparations for the upcoming semester. Please read the special edition of Ibis News sent to students last week, or to the Student Health Service website for more information.
