Technology Product Center- Computer Sales
The Technology Product Center (TPC) is the University of Miami’s on-campus computer, software, and peripheral reseller. The TPC is open year round and sells Apple and select Dell computers at an educational discount. During the “Back to School” timeframe the TPC puts together special bundled systems to meet the needs of incoming students.
The TPC is located in the Ungar Building, Room 103. Hours of operation are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, with special hours during orientation. Please visit Technology Product Center to get information about current pricing and configurations.
Microsoft Software
For this year, all students attending the University of Miami are provided with free access to the following Microsoft© software offerings:
- Office for Windows
- Office for Mac
- Windows Operating System Upgrades
Funding for continuance of this program for subsequent years is under review. For more information, students should visit Information Technolog Microsoft and click on the “I Am a Student” link.
Information Technology- Back-to-School Assistance
During orientation, the Department of Information Technology (IT) will be available in the residential colleges to provide assistance to students with the setup of Internet connectivity on both the CaneNet (wired) and WirelessCanes (wireless) networks, as well as installation of Symantec Protection anti-virus and anti-spyware software.

CaneNet Connection- Computer Support
The CaneNet Connection is now located in the Ungar Building, Room 103, collocated with the Technology Product Center. CaneNet Connection provides students with computer support free of charge. The CaneNet Connection staff offers a range of services, including virus/spyware removal, data recovery, operating system upgrades/installations (Windows and Mac OS X), and wireless/wired connectivity configurations.
In addition, CaneNet Connection technicians can perform hardware repairs on Dell and Apple systems that have current warranties. Services are provided on a first-come, first-served basis; no appointments are necessary. Hours of operation are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, with special hours during Back to School.
IT Support Center
The IT Support Center provides telephone service, long-distance access, and data network services. This includes Internet connectivity on the Coral Gables campus via wired Ethernet through the CaneNet network and wireless connection through the WirelessCanes network.
Dial-up access is available for those students living off campus through Dial-Up Canes. These services are available to all currently enrolled undergraduate and graduate students at the Coral Gables campus.

UMail- University E-mail and Collaboration
UMail is the e-mail servicehttp://www.universityparent.com/node/22539/edit offered free of charge to all enrolled University of Miami students. It is important for incoming students to sign up for their institutional e-mail service to ensure the delivery of all University communications, including emergency alerts. This service provides students with a global address list where they can quickly find all student, faculty, and staff contact information.
UMail also provides useful organizational features such as shared calendars and task lists. UMail accounts can be synched up with the latest technology such as Microsoft Outlook, Blackberry, IPhone, and many other smartphone devices.
UMail accounts will be automatically assigned to students who fail to sign up for an account. For more information on UMail, please visit UMail. For free technical support for UMail, students can visit the CaneNet Connection on campus.
Computer Labs
Computer labs managed by Information Technology are located in the Residential Colleges. In these labs are Dell computers, scanners, and the Uprint student printing solution.
