The Study Abroad Experience
Studying abroad will be one of the most memorable as well as valuable experiences for students during their academic career. It will add an international dimension to their academic background which is critical in today's globalized environment. This experience will help students meet the challenges of today and tomorrow, and it will allow them to develop into globalized citizens who can deal across cultures with ease and certainty.
UM's International Education and Exchange Programs (IEEP) office offers an extensive array of overseas programs in over 45 countries. Students can select a UM-sponsored program which is a UM semester delivered on location in Prague, the Galilee, and the Galapagos or a short-term program led by UM faculty in Latin America, Asia, Europe, South Africa, and many more locations. The faculty-led programs take place during the January Intersession, Spring Break, and the Summer Sessions. Students receive UM credits and UM grades, and the courses are taught by UM professors and/or professors from overseas universities who are experts in their academic fields.
Students can also study abroad at one of UM's 78 overseas partner universities for a semester, year, and/or during the summer. They can study marine biology on the edge of Australia's Great Barrier Reef at James Cook University, be at the center of Europe and study business at the Vienna University of Economics and Business Administration, explore Iceland's unspoiled nature while studying earth sciences at the University of Iceland, immerse themselves in Japanese culture and business practices at Sophia University in Tokyo, do an internship at Tecnológico de Monterrey in Mexico, or become acquainted with the changing panorama of international relations at Uppsala University in Sweden. Many of these programs are delivered in English so foreign language proficiency is not required.
The Schools and Colleges at UM encourage study abroad options for their students. With the assistance of the International Education and Exchange Programs office and the guidance of the academic advisors, students can select a study abroad program to fit almost any major. Additionally, UM financial aid will apply to the costs of the UM program. EARLY PLANNING is very important to make study abroad a reality. Students should visit the IEEP office to get started on their action plan to study abroad! The office is located at Allen Hall 111. Or they call 305-284-3434 to set up an appointment with a study abroad advisor.

Sydney Turnbull
Study Abroad in Germany
"When we arrived, the Mannheim study abroad office told us that we would cry twice - once when we got there and when we left. We only cried once in leaving. The people I met and the adventures we had experienced are unforgettable, making it extremely difficult to leave! I went during the Fall semester and just kept wishing I could have stayed longer to see such good weather return!"
Natalia Yepes
Study Abroad in Argentina
"Buenos Aires, Argentina is truly the Latin counterpart of Paris or Rome, at half the price. The people I met and the experiences I had will stay with me forever. One year later and I'm still talking about my unforgettable trip!"
