The Department of Student Activities and Student Organizations offers students many ways to become involved at the University of Miami. Located in the Smith-Tucker Involvement Center (University Center, Room 209), the department is home to more than 290 student organizations and several student program boards.

The department oversees several programming and organizational governance boards, including Hurricane Productions, which offers a wide range of student-run programming on campus, including concerts, comedians, guest speakers, movie screenings, late night and weekend programs, special events, and student produced theater performances; Homecoming Executive Committee, which coordinates events during the week of Homecoming; the Committee on Student Organizations, which oversees all registered student groups on campus; the Student Activity Fee Allocation Committee, which distributes a portion of the student activity fee to registered student groups; Category 5, UM’s spirit programming committee that works to improve campus spirit and attendance at athletic events; and the Miss University of Miami Scholarship Pageant, which is the only Miss America affiliated pageant on campus.

A complete listing of all registered student organizations can be found online C.O.S.O Groups. This database of organizations is searchable by keyword or organization name, complete with contact information for each organization.

In addition to advising student organizations, departmental staff also serve as a resource for student organizations and their advisors for events and programs on campus. Several handbooks are published annually outlining policies and procedures, as well as opportunities to get involved in campus life.
