Partners in Education/FERPA
Missouri State University adheres to a policy of compliance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 (FERPA). 20 U.S.C. 1232g. Eligible students have four primary rights under FERPA including the right to:
- Inspect their education records,
- Consent to disclosure of personally identifiable information except to the extent that FERPA authorizes disclosure without consent,
- Seek correction of their records, to prevent inaccurate or misleading information, and
- File a complaint with the U.S. Department of Education if they feel their rights are being violated.
Directory information may appear in public documents and may otherwise be disclosed by the University for any purpose in its discretion, without the student’s consent. Directory information at Missouri State University includes name, address, telephone number, and campus e-mail. A complete list of what constitutes directory information may be found in the “Notification of Student Rights.”
Partners in Education (PIE) helps address the needs of freshman by creating a partnership of students, their families, and Missouri State University with the goal of improving the academic success and retention of students. The Academic Assistance Office at Missouri State University offers membership in Partners in Education to families who students sign a waiver allowing information concerning academic progress, curricular changes, and advisement concerns, as well as mid-term progress and final grades to be disclosed to the family. This release does not apply to counseling, health, and financial information protected by FERPA. The student has the right to withdraw the release at any time.
