Missouri State University Parent Guide
A WORD FROM STUDENT LEADER-BETH BUNTON:
When I left for college, I told my parents I wasn't coming home for six weeks. And I didn't. My parents wanted me to get a good start in my classes, make new friends, and learn to live on my own. However, I talked to my parents every day on the phone and let them know what was going on in my life. As a junior now, I don't talk to them quite as frequently on the phone, but through other ways such as text messages and e-mails.
When I have a big decision to make, I still ask for their advice. I value the information they tell me and the advice they give. They've been in my position and have knowledge and wisdom I can use. They slowly are becoming less of parental figures, and more of friends. I like knowing that they are allowing me to make decisions as an adult, but I also like to know that when I come home, I can still be their kid.
