Middle Tennessee State University is committed to developing and nurturing a community devoted to learning, growth and service. We hold these values dear and, in doing so, often convey them in a simple phrase: I am True Blue.

As you learn more about MTSU, you will also express these expectations in an affirmation we call “The True Blue Pledge.” In it, we ask that each person who affiliates with us to practice the core values of honesty and integrity; respect for diversity; engagement in the community; and commitment to reason, not violence.

For members of the faculty and administration, being True Blue also means to renew our commitment to the success of our students. MTSU, now more than a century old, is No. 1 choice of undergraduates in Tennessee, as well as the No. 1 choice of our state’s transfer students and veterans.

Why do so many people choose MTSU? I believe it is because we offer the amenities and opportunities of a major comprehensive institution, yet we have not forgotten our small-college roots in how we care and treat our students. We offer terrific opportunities, exceptional value and a beautiful campus.

The latest example of our student-first commitment is our new, state-of-the-art Student Union Building, an open and inviting facility that will open in the summer of 2012. It features a food court and casual dining area, bookstore, ballroom, student meeting spaces, student organization offices, a collaborative computer center, game room, copy center and many places for students to gather, study and relax.

As you explore our university, you will find a variety of nationally recognized academic degree programs available for your consideration. We offer degree programs at the baccalaureate, master’s, and doctoral levels. In addition, the University offers many co-curricular programs, as well as cultural and artistic activities for students and community members.

I encourage you to visit the campus and come see the difference MTSU can make in your life. Also, please visit our web site, to keep up on all the latest developments at the University.

We are extremely grateful and honored to be entrusted with something as important as your education. And, on behalf of our University, we are pleased to welcome you as new members of our True Blue community.

Sincerely,

Sidney A. McPhee
President
