FAFSA Processing and Tips

Posted in

We would like to take this time to help you begin the financial aid process. Our priority deadline to have a complete financial aid file is February 1st. Funds are awarded on a first-come, first-serve basis. Below you will find a few notes to help you get started:

APPLY EARLY! The processor will begin processing Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on January 1st of each year. Please refer to the attached brochure for instructions.

  • Apply for a Personal Identification Number (PIN) @ www.pin.ed.gov for students and parents.
  • Complete the Renewal early January even if you don't have your federal tax return and W-2 forms to complete the FAFSA, www.fafsa.ed.gov.
  • College's school code; this code will be used when completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
  • Make sure social security numbers and name are entered correctly; do not use nicknames, or middle names as first names,
  • Once you fill out the FAFSA online both student and parent must sign electronically with your PINs. You will receive a response called the Student Aid Report (SAR) in approximately 2-3 weeks,
  • Please contact our office once you receive your SAR, and we will be able to tell you if you are selected for a process called verification. If you are not selected for verification, your file is considered complete, and will be ready to be reviewed by a financial aid advisor.
  • Verification means that we must verify the information that you reported on your FAFSA with supporting documentation. That documentation may include, but not limited to the following:
    - Previous year federal tax returns for parent(s) and student;
    - Previous year W-2 forms for the parent(s) and student;
    - Non-Tax Filer's Form (provided by College);
    - Verification Worksheet (provided by College);
    - Investment Form/Worksheet A/B/C (provided by College)
  • Once we have received all documents, your file maybe complete, but will be reviewed by a financial aid advisor.

Feel free to contact the college office with any further questions or concerns.
