We understand the vital role parents play in the college experience, and we want to connect with you to ensure that your daughter or son is successful at Miami.
In addition to communicating your needs and concerns to University administration, we are here to educate you about student development and appropriate ways to help your college student become an independent and involved citizen.
As the Assistant to the Vice President for Parent Programs, I coordinate the work of the Parents Office (in the Division of Student Affairs) and serve as Editor of the Parents Newsletter. I also work with the Parents Council and help to administer the Parents Fund. Betsey Dietrich is the Program Associate in the Parents Office. CENTRAL LOCATION
What this means for you, as part of the Miami family, is that you will have a central location that serves your needs and helps you find the best answers to your questions.
Whatever your knowledge about the college experience, many things about the first year experience have changed. Very noticeable is the ease with which students can communicate with you and other friends or members of your family. Some of us remember standing in line with a pocket full of change to use the telephone in our college dormitories. In a matter of seconds, students can now contact you by text message or cell phone. Families report that students communicate at least two or three times per week.
On campus, your son or daughter will be part of a Living Learning Community within a residence hall. He or she may even be taking a class there. Certainly, there will be many learning opportunities available inside and outside the classroom and students should be encouraged to engage themselves with the unlimited resources on the Miami University campus and the Oxford community.
