(Fall, Winter & Spring) Alternative Service Breaks are a unique service-learning experience in which students engage in direct volunteer service on projects in national and international communities. During the trips, students participate in a variety of cultural, educational, recreational and reflective activities to enhance their service experiences.

This program provides an opportunity for students to:

  • travel to a new part of the country or world.
  • learn about another culture.
  • be a part of something transformative.
  • learn valuable leadership skills.
  • engage in direct hands on service.
  • enhance their resume.
  • help someone less fortunate.
  • gain insights about social and environmental issues.

For additional information, please contact the Center for Student Leadership, Ethics and Public Service at (919) 515-9248.

Leadership development through campus involvement is a priority at NC State University. Engaging students outside the classroom is critical to their success. Taking advantage of these activities enhances the collegiate experience, gives students opportunities to gain essential skills, and learn lessons that will last a lifetime.
