New Mexico State University Parent Guide
Welcome to New Mexico State University
New Mexico State University welcomes parents and families as important partners in your students’ success.
College students experience new challenges as they learn to make decisions and live more independently. As you encourage your student, remind them that NMSU offers many support services designed to help them succeed and achieve their goals.
There are a few simple strategies we believe all students should use to help them navigate their new environment — attend class regularly, get involved outside the classroom, and introduce themselves to their professors during office hours. Most of all, we want students to seek help as soon as they encounter a difficulty. More options are usually available for those who seek assistance early on.
NMSU is working to develop materials to help families guide students through their journey in higher education. In particular, we encourage you to visit our website; it was designed to help you:
- Locate information on campus resources that support students’ academic, financial, social, physical, and mental wellness.
- Sign up for email updates.
- Connect with the Aggie Community and find out about upcoming events (Parent Weekend, Homecoming, and more).
Because family support can be a key factor in ensuring a smooth transition to college, we invite you to take advantage of our families website. Please let us know how else we can help you help your student.
Best wishes for an excellent year,
